, also known as Kennecott Mines or AHRS Site No. XMC-001, is an abandoned mining camp in Alaska that was the center of activity for several copper mines between 1911 and 1938. Discovered in 1905 it soon turned out to be the richest known concentration of copper in the world. On April 8, 1911, the first ore train hauled $250,000 of ore with a concentration of 70% copper!!! The 14 story copper mill building is surprising well preserved despite being abandoned since 1938! It is still the tallest wooden structure in the US and you can visit it as part of a guided tour of the camp. The camp and mines were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
